Burmese Cinnabar Lacquer Pedestal Offering Bowl, 20th Century
Item Details
This Burmese cinnabar lacquer offering vessel, known as a Hsun-ok, features a distinctive three-part construction. The deep circular basin sits atop a prominent cylindrical pedestal composed of numerous vertical spindles with fine ring-turned ornamentation. The entire piece is supported by a heavy, stepped circular base with molded edge detailing. Finished in a traditional matte cinnabar red lacquer, the piece exhibits an aged patina with visible surface wear and characteristic mottling within the bowl’s interior. The hollow underside reveals the vertical spindle joinery used to create the central support.
