American Victorian Rococo Revival Mahogany and Marble Center Table

Item Details

This exquisite American Victorian center table is a premier example of the Rococo Revival style, likely crafted in a prominent New York or Philadelphia workshop during the mid-19th century. The table is crowned with its original ‘turtle-shaped’ white marble top, featuring deep molded edges and elegant serpentine curves. The solid mahogany base is a masterpiece of Victorian carving, showcasing an apron embellished with high-relief floral and scrollwork cabochons. It stands on four robust cabriole legs, each intricately carved with acanthus motifs and terminating in original metal casters. The legs are united by a sweeping X-form stretcher centered by a masterfully turned drop finial. This table represents the height of period parlor luxury and is distinguished by the exceptional crispness of its carvings and the rarity of its shaped marble.
