Victorian Style Mahogany 40-Drawer Mail Cabinet 20th Century

Item Details

This impressive Victorian Revival apothecary-style chest features forty individual drawers, each fitted with a curved metal pull and a numbered brass identification tag. The cabinet is topped with a distinctive arched gallery centered by a cast brass eagle finial and an embossed ‘MAIL’ plaque, flanked by turned wooden finials. A decorative Greek key border runs along the upper frieze, adding architectural interest. The drawers and the top sorting gallery are lined with vibrant green felt. Constructed with a mahogany finish, the piece sits on a simple plinth base. While mimicking the utility of a 19th-century post office or apothecary cabinet, the hardware and rear assembly suggest a mid-20th century origin, making it a highly decorative and functional storage piece for a library or home office.
