Victorian Oak Side-by-Side, Late 19th to Early 20th Century
Item Details
This antique side-by-side secretary bookcase is constructed primarily of quarter-sawn oak with a rich, dark finish. The asymmetrical unit features a full-length glazed door on the left side opening to a shelved interior for book storage. The right side is composed of a drop-front desk section that reveals a segmented organizational gallery and a small storage drawer. Below the desk, the piece contains one full-width drawer and a lower storage cabinet. The upper portion is decorated with carved scrolling crests and a small, shaped mirror. The entire unit is raised on cabriole legs with carved claw-and-ball feet and retains its original metal casters. Decorative wood appliqués in a double-scroll motif are applied to the desk front, characteristic of the late Victorian era.
