Macey Late Victorian Style Quartersawn Oak Roll-Top Secretary Desk
Item Details
This early 20th-century secretary desk and hutch by the Fred Macey Co. is a fine example of Grand Rapids cabinetry, executed in high-quality quartersawn oak. The upper hutch features a classic dentil-molded cornice above two glazed doors with decorative beaded trim, opening to reveal a single fixed shelf. The desk section is defined by a smooth-gliding tambour roll-top that secures a multi-compartment interior with a central letter drawer. The lower desk base includes two horizontally arranged drawers over a kneehole flanked by two cabinet doors featuring ornate foliate carvings. Internally, the base is highly organized with original vertical file dividers and three additional pull-out drawers. The entire unit is raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating in original metal casters, with the roll-top featuring the iconic ‘Macey’ embossed copper escutcheon.
