11'10" x 18'3" Hand-Knotted Pakistani Peshawar Mansion or Palace-Sized Rug

Item Details

This Peshawar area rug, often referred to as a ‘Chobi’ due to its wood-like, natural tonal palette, is hand-knotted using hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation. The design features a late 20th-century interpretation of classic Persian Tabriz floral patterns, utilizing a muted dusty rose field decorated with an all-over symmetrical array of stylized lotuses, palmettes, and serrated foliage. The colors have been subdued through a traditional stone-washing or tea-washing process to achieve a soft, antique patina. It is framed by a secondary ivory floral border and a primary midnight black border with a continuous vine and blossom motif. The rug is finished with a short cotton fringe, typical of regional Pakistani-Afghan weaving traditions.
