Empire Style Sofa in Floral Brocade
Item Details
This American Empire Revival sofa features a dark mahogany-finished wood frame characterized by dramatic scrolled arms and a curved crest rail. The seating arrangement consists of three removable cushions upholstered in a tan floral brocade fabric, accented by a decorative gimp border and brass nailhead trim along the base and arm facings. The sofa is supported by four out-swept legs featuring carved foliate or fan motifs at the shoulders and terminating in rounded feet. A vintage re-upholstery label from Hunt’s in Houston, Texas, is affixed to the black dust cover on the underside. The piece exhibits the heavy proportions and classical silhouettes typical of early 19th-century American furniture translated into a 20th-century revival form.
