Burmese Carved Teak Relief Box, Late 19th/Early 20th Century

Item Details

This antique Burmese storage chest is constructed from teak and features elaborate hand-carved relief panels on its exterior. The primary panels depict various narrative scenes, including figures in traditional Burmese attire, architectural structures resembling palace walls, and maritime elements such as a boat on water. These scenes are framed by deeply carved guilloche borders that wrap around the edges of the box. The interior is open, revealing the natural grain of the wood and a small side till box for specialized storage. The piece is fitted with brass hardware, including a front hasp and a top-mounted hinge system.
