Bicentennial Commemorative Oak Trestle Side Table, 1976
Item Details
This solid oak trestle side table is a quintessential example of American Bicentennial commemorative furniture from 1976. The rectangular tabletop features breadboard ends and rests upon two distinctive vertical supports hand-carved in a stylized American Bald Eagle motif. Each eagle is depicted with wings partially spread, perched upon a curved base prominently incised with the year ‘1776.’ A low, wavy-contoured stretcher connects the two eagle supports, which terminate in simple shoe feet. The piece is finished in a warm, honey-toned oak stain, typical of the Early American Revival aesthetic popular during the mid-1970s.
