3'11 x 7'8 Hand-Knotted Turkish Konya Area Rug

Item Details

This vintage Turkish Konya rug is a representative example of Central Anatolian tribal weaving, distinguished by its bold geometric medallions and deep, saturated color palette. Hand-knotted using the durable ‘Ghiordes’ or Turkish double-knot technique, the rug features a dense wool pile on a wool foundation, ensuring longevity and a soft, supple handle. The design centers on large-scale stepped medallions—often referred to as ‘Memling Guls’—surrounded by protective tribal motifs and a wide border with stylized rosettes. Utilizing natural dyes, the rug displays rich shades of madder red, indigo blue, and earthy ochre, accented by characteristic ‘abrash’ that adds visual depth and authenticity to the piece.
