Victorian Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Bed, Late 19th Century
Item Details
This 19th-century American bedstead is a notable example of the Renaissance Revival style, crafted primarily from walnut with rich decorative carvings. The tall, architectural headboard features a pronounced arched top centering a circular medallion with a hand-carved floral boss, supported by two large recessed arched panels. Elaborate foliate scrollwork and carved leaf motifs adorn the shoulders of both the headboard and the coordinating footboard, which mirrors the central circular panel design. The piece includes its original side rails and sits on heavy, faceted corner posts. While displaying a darkened patina and surface wear characteristic of its age, the bed retains its original sculptural silhouettes and complex joinery.
