American Folk Art Painted Pine Blanket Chest, 19th Century
Item Details
This American folk art blanket chest is constructed from solid pine and features hand-painted decorative elements throughout. The front facade is divided into two arched panels depicting a woman in a green bodice and a man in a wide-brimmed hat, both flanked by stylized floral and foliate motifs. The chest is finished in a deep red base coat with blue and cream scrollwork accents framing the panels and the lid. It stands on integral bootjack ends and retains its original internal wire hinges. The interior remains unlined, showing the natural grain and oxidation of the pine wood
