Renaissance Revival Burled Walnut and Oak Blanket Chest, Late 19th Century
Item Details
A rectangular storage chest constructed primarily of oak with walnut accents. The front and side panels feature raised molding framing rectangular burl wood veneers. The center of the primary facade is ornamented with a turned, concentric circular boss (rosette) flanked by carved crescent motifs. Each corner of the paneling is anchored by square blocks with matching turned bosses. The chest sits on a heavy, stepped plinth base and features a hinged lid with a secondary molded edge. The interior is lined with a blue floral patterned fabric. Hardware includes brass butt hinges secured with flat-head screws.
