| Additional Information | Toland Peter Sand was born in Berkeley, California in 1949. After earning a degree in philosophy, Sand did not delve into artistic practices until a friend handed over his stained glass business to him in 1977. This motivated Sand to experiment with stained glass and glass blowing, ultimately leading him to working with large blocks of glass. He cuts, sands, polishes and assembles glass pieces into kaleidoscopic sculptures heavily influenced by modern architecture, color and light. His work often utilizes optical crystal, dichroic coated glass, optical epoxy, tinted adhesive, and acrylic paint. Toland Sand’s pieces have been collected by various museums and private collections. |
