4'2 x 7' Hand-Knotted Persian Qashqai Area Rug
Item Details
A unique hand-knotted wool rug from the Qashqai confederacy of Southwestern Iran. The design features a rare vertical transition between two distinct tribal styles: the upper portion contains a triple stepped-diamond medallion on a madder red field with auxiliary geometric rosettes, while the lower portion consists of a minimalist ivory field decorated with staggered, variegated lozenges with checkered interiors. The piece is woven with a wool pile on a wool foundation, featuring natural color variations (abrash) and finished with a traditional multi-colored ‘barber-pole’ selvedge.
