Susan Grisell is an acclaimed artist whose work is celebrated for its elegance, fluid brushwork, and atmospheric depth. A contemporary of the New England impressionist circles, Grisell’s paintings often focus on the interplay of shadow and warmth, whether in her lush floral still lifes or her evocative outdoor scenes. Her work has received prestigious accolades, including top honors at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit and the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival. In 2023, her painting Blue Crock and Oranges was featured in The Wall Street Journal, bringing her evocative New England style to a national audience.
Along with her contemporary Richard Stalter, Grisell was a primary student of Bernard Lennon, studying with him until he died in 1992. The significant body of her work in this collection was personally curated and preserved over many decades by Stalter, who recognized her as a peer of exceptional skill and integrity.
