Biedermeier Birch and Ebonized Commode, Mid-19th Century

Item Details

An antique Biedermeier commode featuring a rectangular top above four graduated drawers. The piece is constructed with blonde birch veneers displaying a prominent natural grain. The architectural form is flanked by two full-length ebonized columns with gilt-painted or brass-accented capitals and bases. The top drawer features a recessed diamond-shaped panel centered with an ebonized escutcheon. It is raised on tapering circular feet. The drawers exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery and a secondary structure of solid pine.

- with nicks, scratches, and abrasions consistent with age and use; some separation to backing; no key included.
