Item Details
A decorative Italian wall mirror executed in the Venetian Rococo style. The cartouche-shaped wooden frame features elaborate carved and gilded scrollwork and acanthus leaf cresting. The frame’s surface is hand-painted with a panoramic veduta (view) of Venice, specifically depicting St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco), including the Campanile, the Doge’s Palace, and gondolas on the water. The left shoulder features a painted detail of the Winged Lion of St. Mark on a burgundy ground. The gilding is applied over a red bole base, which is visible in areas of distress.
