Federal Style Mahogany Serpentine Slant-Front Desk
Item Details
A mahogany slant-front desk featuring a four-drawer serpentine (oxbow) base. The hinged writing slope opens to reveal an interior ‘prospect’ gallery with a central sunburst-carved door, flanked by fluted pilasters, pigeonholes, and small drawers. The drawers feature brass batwing-style escutcheons and bail pulls. Construction reveals hand-cut dovetail joinery on the drawer fronts. The unit is elevated on four carved ball-and-claw feet.

Condition
The mahogany finish exhibits localized surface wear and minor abrasions consistent with age and utility. The writing slope shows minor darkening to the wood grain and light nicks along the edges. Dovetail joinery remains structurally sound with minor separation noted in the secondary wood of the bottom drawer. Brass hardware shows natural oxidation. Missing one handle.
