Chippendale Style Block-Front Mahogany Slant-Front Desk, 20th Century
Item Details
A mahogany slant-front desk featuring a hinged writing slope with a deeply carved central sunburst or fan motif. The lower case is designed in a ‘block-front’ configuration with three graduated drawers flanked by two columns of smaller drawers. The desk is equipped with ornate brass batwing escutcheons and bail pulls. The interior ‘prospect’ gallery contains small drawers, pigeonholes, and a central cabinet door flanked by fluted pilasters. The unit is elevated on four prominent hand-carved ball-and-claw feet. Construction details show machine-assisted dovetailing on the drawer secondary woods.

Condition
The desk is in very good structural condition. The mahogany finish remains vibrant with minor surface scratches and light impressions on the writing slope. The interior gallery is intact with no missing drawer components. The ball-and-claw feet show minor floor scuffs. Brass hardware exhibits a light natural patina but remains bright. One minor finish blemish is noted on the top surface.
