Pair of Chinese Archaistic Carved Nephrite Fittings (Rails) on Custom Stand
Item Details
A pair of substantial, rectangular nephrite fittings, likely originally serving as rails for a miniature altar, bell case, or scholar’s screen. The stones are carved in relief on both sides with archaistic scrollwork and surmounted by openwork chilong (hornless dragons) or phoenixes. The stone exhibits a mottled palette of celadon, russet, and brown, with areas of surface calcification and accretion intended to emulate the patina of excavated archaic jades. Each rail is mounted on a custom black metal display stand.
