Greenough Imperial Folio First Edition; Mo-Na-Hon-Ga, Young Ma-Has-Kah, Peah-Mus-Ka; Charles Bird King portraits; Antique Ioway and Fox Chief prints. ‘Young Ma-Has-Kah’ is a particularly sought-after plate due to the striking bear-claw necklace and the narrative history of the Ioway leader known as ‘White Cloud.’
Historical Significance: These lithographs are historically vital because the original oil paintings by Charles Bird King, commissioned by the War Department, were destroyed in the Smithsonian fire of 1865. Consequently, these 1838 lithographs remain the primary visual record of these Native American leaders.
