Born January 26, 1939, Roger comes from a family with a strong artistic heritage.
His painting career began in 1988 by studying at the Cincinnati Art Academy, taking
night courses for five years. His studies in Cincinnati were with Milton Odell, Carin
Hebenstreit, Joe Peter and Janette Maloy. More recently he has studied with nationally
known Kevin MacPherson, Kenn Backhaus, Jove Wang, William Schultz, C.W. Mundy,
Quang Ho, Scott Burdick, and David Mueller.
His work is accepted into national shows on a regular basis, such as: Arts for the Parks
2004 Final 100, Salon International 2005 & 2006 at Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio,
"Akron Society Of Artist’s "The Grand Exhibition", "Tucson Plein Air Paint Out", won 1st
place in the 2000 American Impressionist Society National Show, was judged Best of
Show in the Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio and the following year took 3rd
place; was awarded the “Outstanding 1st time exhibitor award” in the 80th Hoosier
Salon Annual Exhibition, and exhibited 2 paintings in the Midwest regional Oil Painters
of America show 2003 held at the Hilligoss Gallery in Chicago.
Roger is a past president of the Cincinnati Art Club established in 1890 by such famous
artists as Duveneck, Twachtman, Farney, Sharp, Potthast, and Wessel. He is also a
past president of the Queen City Artists, a member of the Cincinnati MacDowell Society,
and a past “Artist” member of the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society, Indiana Plein Air
Painters, Signature member American Impressionist Society and a Signature and
Honorary member of the Cincinnati Art club.
