Known by many as “the lady in white,” Bernyce Alpert Winick was a multi-media artist, designer, and pianist. She was born in Brooklyn in 1922 and remained a New York native until her passing in 2022. As a child, Winick often created paper dolls leading to an interest in fashion, which she followed to the Traphagen School of Fashion. Her creative endeavors also inspired her to study piano at the Stecher and Horowitz School of the Arts. In 1943, Winick graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts. Expanding her expertise to painting, Winick created many works in realist, impressionist, and abstract styles. Late into her art career, Winick found an interest in photography, specifically photo-collages. She decided to share her knowledge and experience in 2012 with an autobiography titled “My Treasured Lifestyle: 88 Years of Nutrition, Exercise, and the Arts.” Winick was a member of multiple organizations and artist societies including the American Watercolor Society, the Art League of Long Island, and Artist’s Fellowship Inc. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at venues including the Gallery International 57, New York; Z Gallery, New York; Rockville Center Guild for the Arts, New York; and the Fine Arts Museum Long Island, New Jersey.
