Ursula Brenner grew up in Germany, immersed in a rich cultural environment of museums, music, and architecture that continues to influence her work. She later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she studied at Edgecliff College (now part of Xavier University), graduating in 1978 with a degree in Drawing and Painting. Brenner’s work spans both abstracts and landscapes, rooted in a notan study process – a Japanese technique exploring light and dark values – that allows her to build compositions that balance structure with emotional resonance. She works in a variety of media, including acrylics, oils, pastels, and encaustics, creating pieces that range from playful and vibrant to mysterious and contemplative. Influenced by artists such as Wolf Kahn and Susan Sarback, Brenner seeks to transport viewers beyond the ordinary into a space that is bold, ethereal, and deeply personal. Her dedication to her craft earned her a partial scholarship to the Vermont Studio Center in 2002, and her paintings are now part of private and corporate collections across the U.S. and abroad. Brenner lives and works in Cincinnati, where she maintains a studio in St. Bernard (open by appointment), and is represented by select galleries nationwide.
