Andrea Granchi (Italian, born 1947). Grande Sognatore (Powerful Dreamer), 1988. Oil on canvas. A neo-romantic, surrealist composition featuring a male figure in blue-green grisaille standing amidst spectral, swirling forms and figures in a dreamlike landscape. Signed ‘Andrea Granchi 1988’ to the lower right. The verso is inscribed with the artist’s name, title, date, and dimensions ‘60 × 80’ (cm). Housed in a molded wood frame with black and gilt finish.

Artist Significance: Andrea Granchi is a recognized figure in the Florentine art scene, known for his contributions to the ‘Cinema d’artista’ movement and his neo-romantic/surrealist painting style. He is currently a professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence.
