Faintly inscribed in pencil, under bust: “Kay Brackett”
Attribution of artist and identification of sitter is based on the inscription. Neither of Edward Augustus Bracket’s two wives nor his three daughters had names from which Kay would be a nickname. However, Brackett’s second wife, Elizabeth Folger Bellville, had a sister named Katherine.
Condition
- dust buildup throughout; accretions, minor grime; scuffing/abrasions to the hair and neck of bust; large crack from upper left edge to right upper edge; light cracking/scuffing to lower corners and edge of lower part of sculpture; gouging; scuffing and finish loss to frame.
