Contemporary artist Aaron Wooten specializes in cityscapes, portraits, and figural paintings, many of which exhibit farce and provocative content, humor, and the unapologetic imperfections of humanity. Inspired by the satirical work of John Currin, Wooten first began painting portraits in 2005, including portraits of cultural icons such as celebrities, American presidents, and political leaders. While his portraits reflect the style of caricature and comic illustrations, his graphic cityscapes are executed with a Modern illustrative style and are often of monumental scale. Inspiration for these pieces are drawn from northern industrial art of early 20th century Ireland and England, particularly L.S. Lowry’s paintings of working life. By presenting themes that are reflective of society and the past, Wooten aims to combine laughter, sadness, and reality in his unique work.
