American Federal Period Adjustable Double Candle Stand, circa 1780-1800
Item Details
A tall wooden floor stand, likely in an early wood such as maple or cherry. The stand features a cylindrical shaft with an adjustable cross-bar, or arm, that is raised and lowered through a friction or pin-and-hole mechanism (pin present). The adjustable arm is lathe-turned and holds two vertical metal sockets for candles. The shaft terminates in a heavy four-footed cross-form trestle base of square-cut timber.
