American Chippendale Maple Seven-Drawer Tall Chest, Late 18th Century
Item Details
The tall chest of drawers features a rectangular molded cornice over a case fitted with seven drawers of varying depth, arranged two small drawers over five graduated long drawers. The drawer fronts appear to be constructed from figured wood, possibly figured maple, with the surrounding case of a contrasting wood. All drawers are fitted with brass swing bail pull handles and matching escutcheon plates. The case is supported by a scalloped apron and raised on four bracket feet. Secondary wood in the drawer construction is consistent with North American examples of the late 18th century. Drawer construction utilizes through dovetail joinery. The back is formed by horizontal boards.
