French Provincial Carved Pine "Wedding" Armoire, 19th Century

A large-scale French Provincial ‘Wedding’ armoire (armoire de mariage) executed in pine, likely from the Normandy region. The case features a cornice top adorned with relief-carved molding, sitting above two tall paneled doors. The upper door panels feature relief-carved floral sprays with central blooms, while the central panels display carved rosettes (whorls) flanked by stylized acanthus or palm leaves. The cabinet is flanked by fluted stiles and rests on a shaped apron with a central carved shell or foliate motif, terminating in short cabriole front feet. The interior is fitted with shelves and two small drawers featuring hand-cut dovetails. The construction utilizes pegged joinery and a plank back.
