Georgian English Oak Welsh Kitchen Dresser, Late 18th/Early 19th Century
Item Details
A two-part oak kitchen dresser, comprising a dresser base and an open plate rack. The plate rack features a molded cornice above three fixed shelves and a tongue-and-groove boarded back. The dresser base features a rectangular top over a frieze fitted with three short drawers, each with an iron key escutcheon and a brass bail handle with circular backplate. The drawers are constructed with exposed through dovetail joints and have pine secondary wood linings. The base is supported by ring-turned front legs and square rear legs, joined by a pot-board shelf near the floor. The joinery suggests pegged and dovetailed construction. The wood exhibits a dark, mellow patina with visible quarter-sawn grain on the drawer fronts.
