James D. Werline’s importance as an artist comes from an element unique to his work: a captivating spiritual quality derived from his softness of stroke and his masterful ability to create a timeless, intimate mood through the suffusion of light. His predominance as a painter specializing in ‘Rarefied Realism’ made him the subject of numerous articles in newspapers and magazines. His work has been displayed next to Renior, Andrew Wyeth, John Singer Sargent and other noted artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. President George W. Bush commissioned Werline (and co-signed) his painting ‘Twilight at the White House,’ which is displayed there.
