Both a painter and sculptor, Moscow-born artist Nickolay Manuylov, also known as ‘Kuk,’ began his career as a non-conforming underground artist in the midst of Stalin’s USSR. Following Stalin’s death, he and his late wife Ludiya Kirllova among other artists, no longer faced jail for creating art, although vanues still prevented them from exhibiting their work. During the Russian invasion of Crimea, Ukraine, Kuk emigrated to the United States and has been exhibiting his work in museums and other art venues. Kuk’s unique Surrealist art is recognizable for its stylized figures, often featuring hybrid creatures, mythological content and Biblical themes.

- uneven toning and handling wear throughout; areas of water staining; creases and tears to edges and corners; ink bleed, rubbing marks, and staining to verso of sheet.
