A native Ohioan, McElwain received a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University in 1966. Interested in art from a young age, he accepted commissions throughout his studies and continues to this day. As a member of the Cincinnati Art Club, he exhibits often throughout the area. McElwain’s works display nostalgic scenes of the early 1900s. His best known works depict historical architecture and landscapes. By the mid 1970s, he established an artist studio along with his wife, known as McElwain Fine Art and Illustration. Throughout his career, McElwain has received commissions from numerous businesses, including Procter & Gamble, Aronoff Center for the Arts, Fifth Third Bank. His work can be found in private and corporate collections.

- some toning; some buckling; lifted paint to the center right; minor detritus to the mat; discoloration to the edges; scattered accretions to the glazing; some nicks and abrasions to the frame; gilt loss; chipped corners; some dust accumulation; tears to the backing.
