Kentucky-based artist Ben Farrell graduated with a BFA at Northern Kentucky University in 2014. He creates academic landscapes, portraits and other genres, but particularly notable is his 2014 Teratoma exhibition. This body of work includes visceral monumental cutout paintings, large-scale paintings and drawings influenced by masters such as Salvador Dalí, Ivan Albright and Leonardo da Vinci. Regarding this project Farrell states:
‘This body of work comes from the idea of a teratoma, a type of tumor that can contain any type of cell in the body, and expanding that idea beyond just the human body to other organic forms. This work brings parts of a certain theme together that are separate yet related (in form and function) to clash and interact with each other in a single entity, as is the nature of teratomas.’
Farrell also has a Youtube channel where his current works in progress and projects can be viewed: https://www.youtube.com/@BenFarrell
