Born in Tennessee, David “Dave” Schmitt was fascinated by photography and cameras at an early age. He and his family moved to Cincinnati when his father was transferred to the Proctor & Gamble headquarters. Schmitt began his photographic pursuits with a Kodak box camera as a boy. Although he obtained a degree in Business at the University of Cincinnati, Schmitt continued pursuing an interest in photography. He relocated to St. Louis for work and joined the St. Louis Camera Club (SLCC), the second largest club of its kind in the United States at the time. During his retirement, he traveled with the SLCC on many photo shoots throughout the country. Schmitt was a recipient of various awards at the SLCC and was a highly regarded judge in various photography competitions.
