Lionel was born & raised in rural Oklahoma. Reared by his mother, beadwork & Native American doll artist Tonnie Pahsetopah (who was also married to artist Loren Pahsetopah), he was surrounded by artistic influences. Majority of his works are watercolor, yet some are mixed media. Lionel attended Bacone College where he further expanded his knowledge & network with other talented Native artists. Beginning in the mid to late 80’s, Lionel exhibited & won awards from the Cherokee National Museum & Five Civilized Tribes Museums. His work is in many prestigious, private & public collections, including the Smithsonian of the American Indian. Lionel’s murals at the Osage county Court house in Pawhuska, Oklahoma were completed in celebration to his community of Pawhuska. *This collection was commissioned in 1982 & recently deaccessioned from the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
