Cincinnati-based artist Kim Irvin Madsen (1952 – 2024) was a self-taught artist who worked in various mediums including painting, photography and sculpture. Inspired by his Danish heritage, he shared a love for mid-century modern architecture as a child; during Madsen’s adulthood he lived 32 years in a home designed by a celebrated student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Ben Dombar, where he enjoyed a life of Modern art and design that he both avidly collected and created. Madsen’s abstract and modernist work reflects some of his artistic influences including 1950s Abstract Expressionists such as Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg and Sam Francis among others.
