An original watercolor titled ‘English Nobleman in 1688’ painted in 1832 by well known British artist E.M. Ward of the Royal Academy of Arts (14 July 1816 – 15 January 1879). Ward is best known for his murals on the Palace of Westminster as well as his historical paintings. This small watercolor illustrates a 17th century nobleman in full period costume in gold embroidered navy justacorps coat and feathered felt hat. He looks on as he holds his cane in one hand and points to the ground with the other. Displayed in a black and gold toned beveled frame in a beige mat.
Condition
some toning and marks to paper as well as small tear in the upper right corner
