Vintage WWII Japanese Military Samurai Sword
Item Details
A vintage WWII Japanese military samurai sword, also known as a Shin Guntō (new military sword) was a weapon and badge of rank used by the Imperial Japanese Army between the years of 1935 and 1945. During most of that period, the swords were manufactured at the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal. This sword is known as the ‘Type 95’ Shin Guntō, originally released in 1935 it was designed for use by non-commissioned officers (NCOs). It was designed to resemble an officer’s Shin Guntō but was much cheaper to mass-produce. All NCO swords had machine made blades with deep fullers and a serial number stamped on the blade, This swords number is #209841. By 1945 this simplified ‘NCO’ sword was being produced. It had a simple wooden hilt with cross hatched grooves on the grip, while the guard and other fittings were made from iron, with the locking scabbard being made from brass. This piece is in good condition considering its age and use and the blade is still very sharp. This item is a very exciting piece of history.
