Civil War Era US Model 1864 Springfield Musket with Trapdoor Conversion

Item Details

A Civil War Era US Model 1864 Springfield Musket.

This Civil War Period Musket more than likely originally had the standard 40’ barrel when made. After the Civil War, at some point in time this musket ended with a shortened barrel that measures 31’. The lock is dated ‘1864’ and has the ‘EAGLE’ motif and ‘U.S.’ over ‘SPRINGFIELD’ in front of the hammer. All steel surfaces have a dark brown rust aged patina. The stock has been reduced to just in front of the rear barrel band and is broken behind the trigger with a leather and brass tack repair. This musket is decorated with brass nails indicating that it could have been Native American owned at some point as they were known for using brass tacks or nails to adorn their firearms.

Condition

- modified from original. Shortened barrel, refinished and shortened stock. Surface rust on metal parts. Stock is broken behind the trigger and has a vintage repair but is very loose and fragile. The barrel is bent and it is missing the trapdoor.
