An original floral still life painting, by Cincinnati artist William Edwin Gebhardt (1907-1975). The oil on canvas, signed in the lower right corner with the date ’42 (1942), depicts a lovely, informal arrangement of colorful summer flowers, in a green vase, against a mottled taupe background. The painting is housed in what is most likely the original wood frame with a gray, naturally-distressed painted finish.
William Edwin Gebhardt was born in Franklin, Ohio and was known for his portraits and floral paintings. His work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., as well as many private collections.
