Gwen was born in Oak Park, Illinois. She started her art education as a teenager taking classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her degree in Art from the University of Illinois in Champaign.
In the1970’s after she had remarried she was able to spend more time on her art. She and several other women shared a studio in old Milford for over 10yrs. Jack Meanwell, Canadian born Cincinnati artist who taught at the art academy, would come occasionally to advise and critique their work. Gwen painted into her 80’s.
Almost all of her work was done in acrylics on masonite (hardboard). There are a few water color paintings but she preferred the vibrant color and texture of the acrylic paints.
