Joe Bowler (1928 – 2017) was one of America’s leading figurative illustrators during a career that stretched from his first painting for Cosmopolitan when he was nineteen years old to election in the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1992. His work appeared on the covers of and in the pages of Saturday Evening Post, McCall’s, Ladies Home Journal, and Time Magazine, among others.

In 1972 Bowler established a studio on Hilton Head Island and over the next four and half decades he turned his attention from illustration to becoming a master portrait artist and painter of the human figure Joe passed away on the island in March 2017.
