Statuette, Bronze, Model by Giambologna, Italy
Item Details
An exceptional cast bronze reproduction statuette of a bagpiper figure, attributed to Giovanni Francesco Susini, cast from a model by Giambologna circa 1590-1608. A collectible and appealing piece, the cast bronze statuette depicts a seated boy playing the bagpipes. He wears a loose smock and a wide-brimmed hat. He sits upon the stump of a tree trunk his legs loosely crossed with bagpipes resting on his left leg. The statuette is crudely attached to a cylindrical plinth; possibly a later cast piece. A number of high quality casts of the Bagpiper, cast by Susini and his workshop, still survive, no two are identical but each have unquestionable Susini trademarks. The piece listed shows the players boot with a fine bow and a bell end to the bagpipe; which shows a repair to end.
Condition
- the bell end of bagpipe is loose but attached.
