Title and date inscribed to the lower right

Peter Caledon Cameron was born in England around 1852. He was certified as a British government art master in 1883, and practiced plein-air watercolor painting. Cameron moved to the United States in the late 20th century, and lived in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. While the landscape painting practices in Philadelphia were moving towards Impressionism before the turn of the century and solidified with the New Hope Art Colony, Cameron continued to paint realist depictions of the landscapes he visited, seeking an accurate and near-perfect depiction of nature often noting time and place near his signature.
