Item Details

Untitled (non-objective), 2023
Acrylic painting on canvas
Initialed W.F.A. and signed to the verso

William Fred Arrowood is a self-taught abstract artist. His art is an expression of what he is feeling in the moment. He does not plan the work; it simply takes form as he paints. He is inspired by the works of Wassily Kandinsky, Willem de Kooning, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Born in Eastern Kentucky, in 1961, his family moved to Northern Kentucky just across the river from Cincinnati Ohio in 1963. Early on he had an interest in color, and space, which led to a lifelong career in interior design.

He works with acrylic paint, or spray paint, on canvas. It is usually geometric in nature, with multiple layers. Most of the painting is done with a painting pallet instead of a brush. He will sometimes spill or throw paint for effect. His work ranges in size, but he prefers to paint on large-scale canvases.
