Artist Geraldine ‘Gerri’ Reid Skjervold began her art career in the early 1970s, creating work inspired by a number of influences such as the complexities of human relationships, global cultural changes, new technology and environmental preservation. Some recurring visual themes in her paintings and collages include Asian themes, stacked perspective and vibrant patterns. While her work can appear both realist and abstract, many of her pieces feature Surrealist and narrative content.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Skjervold spent much of her career in Chicago but has worked in several states including California, New Mexico, Louisiana, Indiana and Minnesota. She received her BFA and MFA from California State University with double majors in Painting and Printmaking. Skjervold’s work has been exhibited and collected by both public and private collections such as Natalini Gallery, Neville Sargent Gallery, McDonald’s Headquarters, MNSCU Chancellor’s Collection and Harpo Productions among others. Throughout her professional career, she has worked as the Managing Editor of Nationals Arts Guide magazine, Assistant Professor at Purdue and Art Instructor at Minnesota State Teachers Colleges and Universities. Skjervold is currently retired in Minneapolis.
