Additional Information The Civil War journal of Sergeant George White (1836-1926, died in Eatonville, WA), 96th O.V.I. Company F. Commencing August 7, 1862 on the day he was mustered with the final entry being July 19, 1863. Present at the siege of Vicksburg, the journal contains many entries related to the battle, daily movements of the Union troops, orders given by Ulysses S Grant and many more fascinating entries. According to the Roster of the Division White was also present at Chickasaw Bayou, Arkansas Post, Jackson, Grand Coteau, Sabine Cross Roads, Cane River, Fort Gaines, Fort Morgan, Spanish Fort, Fort Blakely, Whistler and Mobile. He was reduced to a Corporal by consolidation and transferred to Company A in 1864 and mustered out in 1865 in Mead, Nebraska. After the war became a farmer and day laborer, having seven children and eventually settled in Eatonville, Washington.

- cover is tattered, some staining to pages and loose pages. Partially written in pencil and rather faded in areas.
